BG Tigers 4 Twycross School 0

In their very first game the Tigers made their umpire/coach feel very proud. Although in high spirits, initially they tended to do the ‘honeypot thing’ where the whole team (and the opposition) seemed to crowd around the ball at the same time. This was exactly the opposite of what we practiced the day before! A fair amount of cajoling was required to get the girls to spread out but it was a joy to see what happened when they started to use the width of the pitch. Avani kept wide, Fenella, Florrie and Lily-Rose defended well, blocking the ball and feeding out nicely to the wings. Poppy battled away up front. Chloe Zhou didn’t have to do much in goal but when the ball came she did a couple of wonderful clearances. Asya was everywhere – lovely to see such enthusiasm but next time we’ll need to keep her up front and away from our defenders. Mariia improved as she got into the game, helping to set up shots at goal. Asya and Sophie got a goal each and Poppy popped in two; each had been beautifully crossed from first Avani and then Sophie. The ‘player of the match’ though was Sophie, who absolutely held the game together, doing all of the things that a Centre Half should!! A really positive start to the season girls with great team spirit! Well done all. Mrs Ogilvie
